What is KYRGYZSTAN?

Kyrgyzstan is one of the new independent states of the former republics of the Soviet Union. It is located in a Central Asia. Borders on China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The area of Kyrgyzstan is 76,650 square Miles. The mountains of Tien-Shan and Pamir-Alai lie on the beautiful land of Kyrgyz Republic. The highest point of the country is peak of Pobeda 24,406 feet above the sea level. The lowest point is 434 feet above the sea. Kyrgyzstan got independence on August 31, 1991. There are seven oblasts (provinces): Batken, Chui, Issyk-Kul, Jalal-Abad, Naryn, Osh and Talas, 43 raions (districts), 23 cities, 45 electoral districts and the capital city is Bishkek. The pearl of the Asia is located in Kyrgyzstan, Issyk-Kul Lake. Sary-Chelek Lake, Song-Kul Lake and Chatyr-Kul Lake are also giving more beauty to Kyrgyzstan. The population of the Kyrgyz Republic is 4,879,986 (March 23, 2000). The head of the country is president, who is elected for the term of five years. Jogorku Kengesh is the local official name of Kyrgyz Parliament with the House of Representatives and Legislature. Supreme Court is the judicial branch of the state. The National currency is Som. The official languages are Kyrgyz and Russian. Also English, Uzbek, Turkish, Tatar, Kazakh, Ukrainian, Tajik, Uigur, Dungan, and other minor languages are spoken in Kyrgyzstan. Religions are Sunni Muslim, Russian Orthodox, and Jewish. Ethnicity of the Nation is more than 180 ethnic groups. Also see:
